Approximately one to two million people in the United States are severely allergic to insect venom, which includes bees, wasps, hornets, and bumble bees. As many as 90 to 100 deaths from serious sting reactions are estimated annually. Interestingly, more people die each year an allergic reaction to bee stings than from complications of a spider or snake bite. Depending on a person's reaction, a bee sting can be either a minor nuisance or a fatal threat. However, there is no question that most people will experience some sort of pain when stung by a bee. Bee safety depends on knowing what to do to avoid being stung by a bee.
